Jamboree 2018

Two tandem canoes on a lake

The Traditional Scouting Association's Jamboree 2018 will be June 15-17 at Brant Conservation Area. The park offers the camping, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking on the kettle lake. There will be programs for all ages of Scouting.

Paddling will be available as part of the program for all ages. Older youth and adults have the option to participate in a Paddle Canada canoeing skill program offered by Grand Experiences. The following programs will be offered, in order of level of challenge:

Level 1: Waterfront Canoeing Skills
This half-day waterfront program introduces the beginner to paddling with a partner in calm waters in a designated area. The skills and knowledge gained at this level form the foundation necessary for confident and safe travel within small and calm environments. Available to Senior Timber Wolves (final year in the pack) and older.
Level 2: Canoeing Basic Skills
The aim of this full-day course is to introduce novice participants to paddling with a partner, in calm waters. Skills and knowledge gained at this level form foundation for basic paddling close to shore on sheltered bodies of water. Rescue options are discussed at this level and can be demonstrated by the instructor. Available to Explorer Troop members and older.
Level 3: Lake Canoe Skills Introduction Tandem
This full-day course includes further skill development for those with some prior canoe experience. Novice paddlers are introduced to paddling with a partner in sheltered calm waters and basic land and water rescue techniques. Available to Explorer Troop members and older.

We will be camping at Brant Conservation Area, 119 Jennings Road, Brantford, Ontario. Fires are permitted only in the site's central campfire area.

Registration is open to all sections. Youth may bring a friend; be sure that the friend brings a medical form. To register, contact Shane Durham. For those taking a canoeing course, we need the names and which course by Monday, April 30, 2018. See below for fees.
